Smoke Detectors
Smoke Detectors
There are two main types: ionization detectors, which respond faster to flaming fires, and photoelectric detectors, which are more effective for smoldering fires. Many modern smoke detectors combine both technologies for enhanced protection. Battery-powered and hardwired models are available, with some including backup batteries for added reliability. For maximum safety, smoke detectors should be installed in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement. Regular testing, monthly maintenance, and replacing batteries at least once a year—or using long-life lithium batteries—are essential to ensure proper function
